International Youth Health Organization - Slovenia
The International Youth Health Organization (YHO) is one of the leading organizations in Europe that empowers young people to work on youth health. YHO teaches, trains, connects and financially supports young people, including students from different backgrounds to actively participate in prevention programmes, research, policy and leadership on youth health. YHO works towards health and wellbeing of younger generations, promotion of healthy lifestyles and prevention of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), including mental health and environmental health. It develops and supports evidence-based and effective policies to assure health-promoting environments for students and young people. This is achieved through building capacity of youth organizations in the topics of youth research, advocacy of effective and comprehensive policies and behaviour-change strategies that improve young people’s health and wellbeing.
YHO was officially established as an international non-governmental organization in 2011 in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Currently it consists of 30 member organizations from 16 different countries. YHO brings together diverse members from global international federations to national and local youth organisations. The expertise of YHO team in organization and implementation of events and activities for young people and students has also been recognized by institutions such as the Danish Public Health Institute, the UK Institute for Alcohol Studies, the World Health Organization, EUROCARE – the European Alliance for Alcohol Policy and others. Our work follows the principles of accessibility and inclusivity on all levels.
