Agency for Migration and Adaptation AMIGA – Czech Republic
AMIGA was founded in October 2010 on the initiative of foreign scientists (migrant women) from the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic and Charles University in Prague with the purpose to promote inclusion and communication between migrants and host society, and a healthy and harmonious lifestyle at international, national, community, family and individual level.
AMIGA is a pioneer and long-term leader in implementation of community volunteer work as an inclusion strategy for migrants and refugees in the Czech Republic. For more than 14 years AMIGA helped several hundreds of migrants and refugees to become volunteers, to improve their professional or educational skills and to get involved into diverse integration activities. The organization has been actively involved in the provision of mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) to Ukrainian refugees including individual psychosocial support within the multidisciplinary mental health project DUMKA, in the field crisis intervention teams and an extensive psycho-education and group psychological services for all ages. AMIGA has also employed a large number of experienced mental health professionals, who are themselves refugees from Ukraine. The AMIGA-leaded centre DUMKA founded in 2022 Is the first and largest organization on mental health of refugees in the Czech Republic. AMIGA is a partner of majority UN agencies active in the Czech Republic (UNHCR, WHO, IOM, UNICEF) and takes active part in different working groups in refugee response, such and MHPSS Technical working group co-leaded by the Ministry of Health and WHO Czech Republic.
